Arrowhead Trails, Inc., ATI, worked with Salida Mountain Trails, SMT, Southwest Conservation Corps, SCC, and volunteers to build the 5 mile long Little Rainbow Trail below Methodist Mountain on the south side of Salida.
ATI used the SWECO 480 mini trail dozer and min-excavators to cut the trail and SCC, SMT, and ATI's combined efforts finished the trail in less than 6 weeks. The Little Rainbow Trail is Chaffee County's first machine built trail designed primarily for beginning mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians.
The Little Rainbow Trail is a 48" wide trail tread promotes sustainability and allows users to easily negotiate passing and eliminates extreme sides lope exposures common on more advanced single track trails. The views of Salida, the Collegiate Peaks, and the Arkansas Valley from the Little Rainbow Trail provide a unique vantage point for scenic viewing and photographic opportunities from the foothills of Methodist Mountain.
