In Spring of 2012, Arrowhead Trails, Inc. was asked by the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) to tackle the task of trail improvements and maintenance to the beloved Falcon Trail loop. The project started with ATI creating a detailed trail assessment and maintenance plan utilizing GPS data collectors in the field and organizing and illustrating the collected data in the office via GIS. The end result was a simple, user friendly maintenance plan prescription that included a detailed spreadsheet, and a set of correlating maps and georeferenced field photos. The plan was then put into motion on the ground as the ATI trail crew systematically repaired and maintained each problem spot using machines and hand tools.
